摘要:The generalization has often been made that inflectional affixation occurs outside of derivational affixation. This is both a statement of actual linear ordering of affixes and a derivational statement: inflectional affixes are added to a word only after derivational affixation is completed. The Athapaskan languages offer strong counterexamples to this claim: in these languages clearly inflectional affixes appear to be added to the word prior to the addition of derivational affixes. Athapaskan languages thus exhibit the phenomenon termed a 'bracketing paradox' (Pesetsky 1985) in that the actual order of morphemes and the order of morphemes required for the morphosyntax are distinct. A bracketing paradox exists both in the Athapaskan verb, as has often been noted in the literature (Langacker 1972, Rice 1985, Speas 1986, 1987, Wright 1983, 1987 and elsewhere) and in the Athapaskan noun. In this paper I will explore a solution for the 'inflection inside of derivation' problem in the noun in Slave, an Athapaskan language of northern Canada.
