摘要:In the last few years, a significant body of research has been devoted to the problem of how best to capture . the class of front vowels and coronal consonants (e.g. Mester & Ito 1989, Pulleyblank 1989, Cheng 1990, Clements 1990, Lahiri & Evers 1991, Hume 1992, Clements & Hume to appear; cf. Gorecka . 1989a). The consensus reached is that front vowels are Coronal, a feature formerly restricted to consonants. A single set of articulators then marks place in both consonants and vowels and, as a result, the approach is often labelled Unified Articulators (henceforu'l UA).
