摘要:With the arrival of the 20th century, the industrial civilization enters a critical stage in its development. The blind chase of material wealth has resulted in more and more social problems. Furthermore, when Christian faith was wiped out along with the pastoral living style, a spiritual wasteland is resulted. Desperation becomes an incurable modern disease. As a responsible novelist, Lawrence attempts to find a cure to this modern disease. This paper explores the social, religious and emotional implications of the depictions of natural scenes in Sons and Lovers , and concludes that nature appears in this novel as a salvation force against the industrial distortion of human nature.
