摘要:The study evaluates the land suitability of three proposed community developments—Furry Creek, Porteau Cove, and Britannia Beach—along the southern region of the Sea-to-Sky highway in coastal British Columbia. The assessment is based on two aspects: (1) the minimization of environmental impact in areas with rich biodiversity, and (2) the suitability of slope gradients for development purposes. The objective of the study was to produce an evaluation of the feasibility of development with respect to these two aspects, and to thereby provide a framework for further research towards the establishment of sustainable communities that preserve and integrate natural systems within urban armatures. Our analysis concluded that the Britannia Beach and Furry Creek master-planned communities were best situated with respect to incorporating natural systems while still maintaining economic feasibility. Further research is required to determine additional factors influencing the potential for development (e.g., soils, hydrology, viewshed analysis) and to produce a detailed quantitative analysis of the development plans.
