摘要：On October 27/28 2000, over 700 progressive activists attended a conference in Toronto entitled "Rebuilding the Left." The origins of this rather remarkable event lie in an article published by Sam Gindin two years ago in This Magazine ("The party's over," November/December 1998). Reflecting on the growing awareness by the Left in Canada of the need for a more effective means of challenging corporate power, Gindin proposed, as a first step in this direction, the creation of a "structured movement" of the Left; a novel type of political organization that is something more than a coalition but less than a party.
